On raw per-gram price, the hemp route usually wins — no excise tax and no storefront in the math, with ounces commonly landing well under dispensary pricing. What the dispensary price buys is mandated, state-audited testing and a regulated chain of custody; the hemp route replaces that apparatus with exactly one document, the vendor’s COA, which is why our reviews obsess over it. In total-THC states the comparison is moot (the hemp route is not lawful), and after November 12, 2026 the federal ban closes it everywhere. Until then: same plant, different paperwork, and the paperwork is the product.
